ISBN Barcodes for Books

If you need a barcode for a book, we recommend that you first get an ISBN (International Standard Book Number). AN ISBN can be easily transformed into a barcode number for your book (therefore, you will not need to buy a unique barcode number).

To get an ISBN, contact the ISBN Agency in Singapore. This is the National Library. They will issue you the ISBN (for free). Once you receive your ISBN, come back here and purchase the ISBN barcode images.

ISBNs are unique international numbers assigned to published books and similar publications. They are recorded in book directories internationally. ISBNs enable publishers, libraries, and bookstores to locate a specific book quickly and efficiently (for re-ordering purposes). A different ISBN is required for each format published (e.g., online books or different language editions).

Once you have your ISBN, return here and order the barcode for your number below. We will email you the correct barcode artwork to print on your book.

Here are some common questions:

An ISBN is a 13-digit unique identification number assigned to books and other print, electronic, or multimedia publications. It is used for printed books and pamphlets containing more than four pages of text, maps, e-books, PDFs, Braille publications, and audiobooks.
Each country has its own designated organization that controls the distribution of ISBNs. In Singapore this is the National Library. Please see their portal page.
You will need a different barcode number and image for each separate publication. This includes different formats of the same book. For example, if you were publishing a paperback and an eBook, you would need a different number for each.
